Glyceria striata

This is an extremely widespread plant with a near-nationwide distribution, common to bogs, marshes, fens, ditches, moist woodlands, and other wet and low-lying areas. Despite its common name, Glyceria striata is not a significant food source for water fowl or other birds, although it does make a valuable groundcover for birds and small mammals. All grasses provide important construction material for nests and should be planted more in home landscapes for that reason alone.

Each culm of Fowl Manna Grass terminates in ornamental spikelets up to 12 inches long. Seeds mature rapidly during its long bloom time. This plant spreads easily via seed and may form small colonies. Fowl Manna Grass is highly adaptable and can grow in sun or shade.
