Eurybia macrophylla
This woodland aster is grown primarily for its large foliage, with leaves up to 8″ long and 4 to 6″ wide. A good choice of groundcover for difficult shady areas, this plant tolerates a wide range of soil moisture conditions and is a good native alternative to exotic Hosta spp. Despite the somewhat sparse-looking flowers, the blooms attract many types of pollinators, including long and short-tongued bees, wasps, flies, butterflies, and even beetles, and the plant is host to many moth and butterfly species. Mammalian herbivores may find this plant palatable.
