Zizia aptera
This low-maintenance member of the Carrot Family (Apiaceae) provides easily-accessible nectar and pollen to a number of pollinators early in the season, including small bees, flies, and beetles. As with others in this family, it is a host plant to the Black Swallowtail butterfly. This is an adaptable plant that can tolerate a wide variety of conditions, including light shade to full sun and somewhat dry soil. This will readily re-seed in the garden. Pair with Eastern Bluestar or Red Columbine for a striking late-spring color combination.
