The common name “Tickseed” refers to the similar appearance of this plant’s seeds to ticks, but these beautiful and long-blooming wildflowers do not attract ticks to your yard. Dead-heading spent flowers will extend the already long bloom time. Lanceleaf Tickseed is attractive to many types of pollinators and is a host to a handful of butterfly and moth species. This clump-forming perennial will re-seed in optimal growing conditions.
This plant may need dividing every 2-to-3 years to keep vigorous. Lanceleaf Tickseed will grow to about 2 feet in height but can get taller in drier conditions that lack heavy competition; plants can be cut back mid-summer if growth is too aggressive. Mammalian herbivores may sometimes munch on this plant.
