Desmodium canadense
This nitrogen-fixing member of the Legume family (Fabaceae) produces small bright purple-pink flowers in early summer that attract mainly bees, as this plant only produces pollen and no nectar. Nonetheless, this plant is highly adaptable and does well in cultivation, and will not grow aggressively in smaller garden spaces. This is one of the showiest in its genus as the flowers can be quite numerous. Gamebirds, small rodents, and other mammals may feed on this foliage; mature seeds will stick to fur and clothing, aiding in dispersal.
