Wingstem! This is a very tall, wonderful plant in the Asteraceae family that prefers light shade and moist soil, making it a bright, valuable addition to many home landscapes. This plant attracts a TON of pollinators, namely bees and wasps, and is host to at least 15 butterfly and moth species in the Kentuckiana area, including the Silvery Checkerspot and Summer Azure butterflies.
This plant is relatively widespread in its range and is plentiful along the Ohio River, as it is at home in flood plains and wet wooded openings. The somewhat sparse, drooping ray flowers are a rich yellow and long-lasting. This is a clump forming perennial but may reseed somewhat aggressively, so it may not be suitable for low-maintenance garden beds that are on the smaller side.
